Re: Good German Strat?
Hmmm, where do I start? I think the Germans are fantastically versatile and can fight great in colonial or fortress. I learned them in the dark days of the War Chiefs, so I have a natural preference for fortress-oriented strats (I have lots of em... one of these days I will do a guide). After 1.1 TA...

Re: the Aztec Industrial Revolution
Nice guide, Macabee. Even though I don't play warchiefs civs I respect a good, thorough analysis like this. Most people would never suspect an FI from a rusher civ like the Aztecs. Still, I do recall a recent recorded game at Age Sanc that showed one of the experts pull off an Aztec FI and defeat a ...

Re: New patch?
I strongly agree about Japan. An ashi nerf is definitely in order. I don't know how they will deal with shrines and the big shrine, but maybe they could nerf the heavenly kami card to reduce the bonus it gives to shrine production. Yumis are even more OP than ashis when fully upgraded; they get a 20...

Re: Levelling up my cities
Comp stomps are beneficial in several ways. Not only do you get XP for your cities, but you can also practice your micro on easy targets and try different BOs. I find the crossing maps best for this: Orinoco and Indochina. Just wall up the crossings in discovery, send some defensive forces to the wa...

I will watch; thanks for posting. Just to note, though: advanced arsenal is a must for late Russian colonial. Along with boyars, it makes strelets a force to be reckoned with (flint lock, CIR, paper cartridge, drummers= they ain't so weak anymore  )

Re: Just Another Reason I Love AOE 3 !
Ah, I remembered another one! If the warchiefs convert outlaw treasure guardians, they are some mean-sounding Spanish dudes! There are American versions, too, like the 10 pistoleros the Sioux can send ("Whatcha need? You got it"), but the Spanish ones are way cooler: "Que me orbena? A...

I do need to warn anyone who does QS on TWC, though: Be prepared to fight super-lame Dutchies who get 7 starting vils, 280XP to build a bank and skirms that can kill cav 8O

Re: What Happened to the Spanish?
Wow, thanks, Soccer; that archived strat was right on point and answered a lot of my questions. The "sling" strat sounds pretty complicated and would require a lot of coordination to pull off, but at least now I know missionaries' attack boost only affects Spanish units. Also, I share your...

Re: Quick Search / Hosted Games
Hmm, I couldn't really classify one civ or another as "decent" on vanilla, but for my part I generally use the Germans, Brits, Spanish and Ports. Vanilla cassadores do some unholy damage to all infantry, which obviously got a big time nerf early in the game's history; it is fun to use them...

Re: Quick Search / Hosted Games
I voted for hosted but I need to explain myself. I do mostly hosted in TAD because--as everyone has said--I am sick of playing Jappo/Indians. I used to do QS with Russia on TAD then ran into one high-rank Japanese club/ashi lamer after another and I just said "Forget it." I'm sure I would ...

Re: What Happened to the Spanish?
I did some good colonial Spain testing over the weekend. I did FF once and beat the Aztecs, but my opponent said it was not his main civ. Either way, lancers do a number on all Aztec units; add in a few skirms and the pumas go down pretty easy. Today I started wondering about what Spain can do in a ...

I just remembered another one that I like: Hackapells. Where else do you get to hear FINNISH in an RTS?? That is one funky language.
"Wallamina! Yugurtka!"
BTW- Has anyone seen what 8 hackapells do to 30 LBs?

range resistance isn't applied with abus, cuz they do seige damage, not ranged damage if i'm correct.[/quote] That would be worth testing. Abus are tagged "artillery, infantry, gunpowder unit" and their attack is categorized "ranged attack," not "bombard attack." I am v...
