Anti Japanese strat (but is it fair?)
---I wish I had a recorded game to share but I don't. However I was playing a Mstr Sarge Japanese player when I stumbled across an idea to use when playing them.
---Using my 4 Sowar card as my second shipment, I would search the map for Japanese shrines. I then sent a villie around to the outlying ones and would shoot all the game in the area. This of course is easier than destroying the shrine. The guy cursed me after I had cleaned out three locations of any living critters.
---My question is... is this an ethical strategy? Or just cheap underhanded gameplay?

It's no more "cheap" than raiding is IMO.

I think it's part of the assumed risk of putting your shrines around the map. As long as it's part of the game, it's fair. It's how me, djdan, and macabee won a game using trade monopoly paired with India's Cease Fire tech to win a team game where the other team holed themselves up in their base waiting to amass destructive troops, or defend like mad. It may be sneaky, it may be "cheap", but it's not cheating.

Shrines have a good 1600 hp and only cost 125 wood to replace. If he lets them die and is unable to replace them, then he's a noob. It's completely fair.
Groovy.

If hunts bonus on the shrines ruined it for him he doesn't really have a strong strat anyhow! It falls in the arena of any scorched earth strat. Fortunately in this RTS you can't force fire cannon to destroy forests!

I agree with eveything said here.
It's like walling in gold piles. There's nothing wrong with it if you can do it.

Japan is a top civ? :O
Re: Anti Japanese strat (but is it fair?)
^ IMO, yes they are a top 4 civ.
It goes something like:
1) China
2) Dutch
3) Spain/Iro/Japan

I'd have to agree with your civ listing, Drew. China and Dutch are so damn easy to play; I've flattened colonels with both of those civs without breaking a sweat. I guess I'm too used to fighting within an inch of my life for every single win.
Groovy.

No way iro is top civ :\ Not even Japan, but ok, we can say so.
There are only 4 top civs, which are China, Dutch, SIOUX and Spain. You forgot sioux, they are better than iro and than japs imo.

Hmm. They are still strong nonetheless. I did forget about sioux. LOL.

I have always thought that spreading shrines around was a potential Achilles heal to Japan. I see this as a very simple solution to exploiting a difficult civ to raid. There are other tactics that I don't care for, but they are ALL part of the game. Why not?

@topic it's ok, it's like stealing a treasure or sth
imo it isn't that bad for japs, running out of hunts is way worse for other civs o_O
gosh using Cease Fire for TM must be completely frustrating for the other guys
