you CAN spam one unit and win, ive seen many a spam on replays from the pros,
especially xbow spam

It's rare that you'll see a high level 1v1 with a person using just one unit.

Even xbow-massers need pikemen and then later hussars to support them.

Some Japanese players will make nothing but Ashigarus in games, but even that doesn't usually work -- you eventually have to make at least a few yumis or naginatas.

Yeah, the only exception is OP units like ashigaru. Even those can be destroyed with good hit and run at the higher levels.

I see people mass Ashigarus , Cuirassuirs and Axe Riders on a regular basis. The worst bit is they actually seem to win

Sam is right there, generally people mass units which are op or dont stick to the counter system...i have also seen pure sepoy with only a 4 sowar shipment win

That's another thing in 1v1. Unit shipments matter. You don't just spam one unit, you have to get other units and when from shipments you must keep them alive. For example, 2 falcs card.
