I hate Vista - part 32: Audiodg.exe takes 25% of cpu away
That's right. ******* Vista with his audiodg.exe crap makes me lose 25% of cpu which causes TERRIBLE LAG, instead of having aoe3 or team fortress running at 80% cpu they are brought down to 40% or sth while audiodg sucks it up.
Comadevil you're a pro on this tech stuff, googled for quite some time, but since you're a Vista fan I thought you'd able to help me

Some more info on the matter:
audiodg.exe is a service that controls sound, so it can't be terminated. It might have something to do with my sound drives, but I wanted to get some advice here first.
Please help!

What sound chipset/soundcard do u have? Realtek?
If so get the latest driver, that solves the prob
http://www.realtek.com.tw/
If it is another chipset get also the latest driver first

try windows update, it should give you the one you need. I had the same issue and that was my resolution mate.
Or...go device manager and update driver on your sound card from there!
cheers

Done. But it doesn't seem to have quite solved the problem I'll test around some more and then I'll say something.

Are you using onboard sound or a PCI/PCI-E soundcard?

I suppose it's onboard, what's a PCI/PCI-E?

Hmm. Ok.
PCI or PCI-E are interfaces that connect add-on components to the motherboard. I will assume you are using onboard sound.
Here's something you could try. (Worked for someone I know).
Right click the speaker icon (bottom right of your screen on taskbar).
Click playback devices.
Click once on speakers to highlight it (has a green arrow by it).
Click on properties.
Now, depending on your set-up, somewhere there will be an option to "disable enhancements". (It may be under one of the other tabs).
Try this, for my friend it lowered the CPU usage of the proccess quite a lot.
He got this from someone else, so I don't know how much effect it will have for you as I've not tried it myself, but I know a few people who have this problem with the proccess so your not the only one........

This is exactly my problem

It still has some lag spikes. I can't find the solution on the internet.

Hmm, looks like they disabled enhancements and still get spikes.
I'm not sure what else you can do apart from trying different drivers. Be sure to uninstall the current drivers first before installing new ones, don't just update.
I think I read somewhere that someone was using XP drivers on Vista and that worked, I wouldn't reccommend it though TBH. Coma probably has more knowledge on this area.......
