Need help with Protoss (or 1v1 in general)

Post by huGGy »

I suck balls in 1v1 (or in general probably) and need someone to train me a little bit. Micro and macro training that is. I also don't really know the maps, so some openers (building placement) would be good. At the moment i lose every single game vs goldleague players. Help is appreciated!

Here is a replay. My opponent wasn't good. My biggest weakness is that i don't really know the maps and what to do on them and i tend to forget to spend my ressources properly. I don't know if a replay like that helps much.

The maps are all almost the same, aren't they?

It's not like AoE, some maps have OP hunts, and some you start with a plantation, and some you start with two outposts and a barracks.

well rush distance and safity of the expos can greatly affect the games, and you need to know where the ramp is if you are playing against zerg and having to wall off (which I always forget).

But well, since the maps aren't random, you'll learn their basic lay-out really fast. Maybe you can play a couple of games against the computer and just scope the map (without actually playing). I bet you'll know the maps in no-time :D.

Watched the replay, I think you played pretty decent there (at least much better than your opponent). Still you could improve on a couple of things:

- I think in PvP 2 gate and then robo like you did is strongest, if you thereafter make a lot of collosi, since collosi own in PvP

- After making your robo, you instantly made an observer, but that observer thereafter didn't achieve that much. I think you'd be better off getting an immortal first so that you can hold off rushes and then get an observer.

- Stalkers do good against zealots if you hit 'n run, but if you keep standing you actually give zealots a chance to hit you and possibly kill some units.

- You could have taken your expo a little bit earlier IMO

But I think you played pretty decent overal.

A few things i have noted:

- the game lasted 14:50. U produced ur last probe around 07:20. Ur opponent also stopped probe production around that point. So economy was equal. Else he would have pulled ahead.
- Don't be overeager and try to kill ur opponent after u pushed back the first push or engage with ur whole army at ur opponents base. U already had an advantage by having the expo and delaying the opponents expo. Just like Artosis always says: If u are ahead, try to get more ahead instead of killing ur opponent. U just wasted ur army by making a counterattack. Ur opponent just made the one big mistake to counter ur counterattack and lost because of it. But he wasn't that far behind
