This is the kind of series that's right up my alley. Another Band of Brothers-like series. For me, not as good as Brothers, but better than nothing.

I've been watching it. It's pretty good so far, and it will probably get better as the series moves on.

I don't think its started on sky yet, but I sure will be watching it when it comes on. I have been looking forward to this for a while and I hope it lives up to what was laid out with Band of Brothers. I think it would be cool if Spielberg does another series like this but this time set during the campaigns of Russia, that way he would have covered all his bases.

Haven't had a chance to watch it just yet, but what is it like? Is it more story driven, like Band of Brothers? Or more documentary style?

It's a good show, all right. But the Japanese do not fight as effectively as ashis, let's just put it that way. At least, not when they try to beat dug-in Browning M1917 machine guns with bayonets. :-P

I've watched the first 2 episodes on HBO. (3 months free, just in time for this series to start...woot!)

It is a drama, not a documentary. The battle for Guadalcanal was amazing. Watching the marines defend the airfield from wave after wave after wave of Japanese soldiers was just incredible.

Still doesn't compare to the time I spent listening to my great uncle tell me about D-Day. He was an Army Engineer that landed on the beaches of Normandy. He was one of the lucky ones that made it home.

Ah I remember my grandma telling me stories about german soldiers living in their houses and being bombed with V1 and V2 rockets.
And my granddad had amazing stories about his father who went to clean up the trenches after the great war in 1919.

Lookin forward to these series.
