Keeping native civs off the water

Anyone got any ideas how to compete for the water vs civs that can spam those cheap canoes? 1v1, obviously caravels beat them, but cost effectively once both players start producing warships how can you compete? Towers seem to help a bit, but i don't know. It seems like once you lose the water fight your eco will get crushed...

your best bet is too add in a tower or two on the coast in age 2 , then if can manage to age to fortress that is when you can make a gamble for water. u really do need frigates and even a culverin to help you fight for water if your native opponet is on it hardcore

If your opponent is making a huge push on water, he's neglecting something on the land. If it's a 3v3, go after the person pushing on water at his base. Moreover, emphasis killin' his wood villies.

Also remember that natives don't have upgrade techs. 5 1400 hp 93 atk caravels will own 20 canoes, if water dance pops up get some frigates and it's lost for the native. Only aztec can compete with euros on sea past 20-30 mins. As Dan said, early on outposts are a great help.

20%+ hp for 400f 400w is nothing compared to 50%+ hp for 400w 400c etc

This topic was recently mentioned on Agesanc, where the consensus was that Euro navy pwns native navy ONLY (and here with lies the draw back) after the Euro civ throws a decent amount of cards at his ships.

How do you put an image next to another image in your sig instead of it automatically being places underneath it?
Like my Exalted Bruce Lee sig and the RTSL sig, I didn't do that, a moderator did that, but please tell me how to do that.
