Today is a very big day in China, they celebrate their 60th anniversary of the PRC.
The National Day Grand Ceremony will begin at 10:00am on October 1st in the Tiananmen area. On the day, there will be a massive military review and mass parade. A National Day party will take place in the evening, after the grand ceremony has ended.
How is this being seen in the rest of the world?

It is being honored by the Empire State building, which is displaying the red and yellow colors by light at night.
Interestingly enough, I watched Seven Years in Tibet for the first time today.

Probably part of the repayment of debt we owe..
But that does surprise me that they are honoring it in that way when it doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere else. I even went through CNN.com and saw nothing about it. They mentioned that new dorm "no sex" rule and a story about why women have sex (?), but no mention of china.
It could be cause its still the 30th over here, so maybe I'll be able to read about it tomorrow. Sounds like a cool ceremony

Right now it is 5 minutes before midnight and the news channels are starting the story now.
On msnbc they have a story about the empire state buildings lights and how some people don't like how in America one of our biggest symbols is showing approval of communist china even though china does not have the best humans rights record. Also they were saying 20 people were protesting there about china's take over of tibet

No mention of it at all by anyone in Canada, and not on our evening news. Didn't know until you mentioned it.

I haven't heard a thing about it. But that's not surprising. The American press doesn't like "Commies," especially Communist China; the US refused to even recognize it as a State until 1979.
Thanks for sharing that information with us. I probably would not have learned about it otherwise. Or, strike that, I probably would have heard about it, but with US spin telling me about how atrocious China is.
I'm glad you are living over there and proving that the Chinese are not monsters. International exposure/understanding FTW.

36 million deaths is hard to spin in a favorable way. Maybe I just don't understand.

Although I'm not a fan of communism or the horrible human rights violations perpetrated by the Chinese government, they do throw a spectacular party. (Just like the Olympics last year)

I dont want a political debate here, but just interested in how its being broadcasted in different countries.
The military parade was mind-blowing, never seen before. (especially the female platoons in pink short skirts ^_^)
Here in Yangshuo, we got served a wonderful firework, they know what firework means.
Oh, and from personal experience, China is very liberal btw
