:-D drew, did you have this thoughts after our game a few days ago?

I don't think Dutch are to strong...I totally agree with sporting, it is very
difficult for an Dutch player to win when he is not able to make a fast fortress,
for example versus India our Iro.

I think that it is true, that the dutch are maybe the strongest civ in mid game, but every civ needs a advantage...you can't play late game with dutch, the most civs have a much stronger economy than.

Maybe I only got these impressions, because I like to play Dutch, but hopefully I appreciated impartially.
I actually watched that game the other day from your perspective... it was actually a lot closer than I thought. If only I had notice your villagers had gone north to the gold mine and you had your artillery foundation sitting up there. I wouldn't have had to worry about TC fire and building placement... and when 7 falcs showed up against my 3 culvs and you killed 2 of them ASAP.... well.... it was a veryGG.

Dutch can be a bit too good at some points, but it is really how you play them that makes a significant difference. If you build up a large army, attack, fall back a little, rebuild massive army--then you will win against any civ as Dutch. Another way to beat Dutch is to play as Britain and mass Lbows. They, even in Vanilla, chew anything a Dutch player can send at you. Just have a small meatshield of anticav and you are fine.

But on Ruyters, perhaps, as Stroky Blofield put it, increase their cost by 5 food (35 food, 75 coin), and increase train time by 2 or 3 seconds. And the ideas about Ruyters not auto-upgrading are just brilliant. Nothing has come close to those yet. Give these, and (forgive me if I'm wrong; I play Dutch on Vanilla) let excessive taxation give a 35%-50% gathering rate boost to banks, if it already doesn't. (In Vanilla it gives a 50% gathering boost; no +2 bank addition, but eco is pretty good).

2.35 + 50% = 3.525
vs.
2.75 + 35% = 3.7125
vs.
2.75 + 50% = 4.125

longbow when massed will pretty much kill anything dutch can make with the exception of MASSED heavy artilery or pure hussar spamming. all that is needed in these casses is a bit of anti cav or a couple culverin. 26 range 4.4 speed longbow>20 range 3.95 speed skirm

heck massed longbow can even kill a few falcs if enough bows are present
