I've Just Had a Lag-Free Experience
Last night I tried something I haven't done in almost two years: I played a single-player skirmish with a really low-level home city. I figured: "Ah, it's late, no one's on ESO and I feel like spamming muskets." I thought it would be just another comp stomp, but how wrong I was!
I have never seen such clean gameplay in my life! I mean, the vils moved exactly when I clicked on them and went exactly where I told them. They even seemed to move quickly, snapping back and forth between herding and gathering with effortless grace. There wasn't even a wait between the game loading screen and the crate-gathering. "My goodness," I thought, "now I'm really seeing how much command lag affects my play!" If games played like this on ESO, I don't know how I could lose. I could even micro!! I felt invincible!!
It got even better. I got in a few battles and my muskets responded with incredible speed. They fired right at the moment I clicked and moved right afterward. They couldn't touch me. I even split my units into three or four groups and just pwned everything with lag-free clicks. No units walked stupidly into battle. Everyone did what they were told, even cav. It was simply a beautiful thing.
On reflection, it is amazing how much lag affects game play. If things were always as sharp as they were in this skirmish, this game would be even more fun than it is now. WOW!

This is why top players practice LAN style before the WCG -- the lag difference is huge and you need to move way quicker.

Indeed indeed, it's what makes LAN tournaments so gracious

That doesn't surprise me. Do they hold those games on a LAN? It would make sense if they did. I think this is the way the programmers intended it to be played. After getting used to ESO troubles, playing this skirmish was like playing a different game completely.

nice experience kaiser, ye i made that experience too when i had my new comp for the first time. i just went max graphics, put in some comps in single player skirmish, then just played and enjoyed the graphics along with the game and lag-free interaction,
this is also possible on ESO when you play against a computer but it ends when more than 1 person or even 1 human player is involved.

parfait said that in one of his interviews, he said he's doing so well in those tournaments because he got great micro and can perfectly use it in an environment where lag is pracitcally non-existent.

Yes, i.e. NaturePhoenix had the magic of blowing up all his chances in every single WCG, regardless of being the second best aoe3 playerparfait said that in one of his interviews, he said he's doing so well in those tournaments because he got great micro and can perfectly use it in an environment where lag is pracitcally non-existent.

"LOCAL" Area Network :p
Re: I've Just Had a Lag-Free Experience
Well, when you do WCG tourneys you fly to some place in the US and play there IIRC.
They are all in the same building, then it shouldn't be hard to play on LAN...
