Last movies you've seen

Now, that's something I rarely see discussed here. I've seen Valkyrie and Slumdog Millionaire lately, Valkyrie was quite good, I was quite impressed with Cruise's performance. He can be a decent actor if he leaves that retarded smile of his at home.

Slumdog millionaire was an ok movie, interesting story, but it was way over-hyped imo. There's no way possible for that to get like 8 oscars or whatever it was. I think what failed there was that the children actors were really good, but their grown up counterparts failed miserably, the main character was really empty, the only thing in his personality was the existence of a destiny and that he should pursuit his love -.-

What do our fellow forumers think?

Valkyrie was good, if for no other reason than it was the first Hollywood movie to at least suggest that some Germans in WWII were decent people with a conscience. I have written about the stereotyping that goes in Hollywood about Germans, and Valkyrie was a refreshing break from bad habits. The historical fact is that many, many Germans hated Hitler, including large numbers of German officers. Most German officers came from prosperous aristocratic families, while Hitler was a hopeless Austrian romantic who advanced no higher than Corporal during his military career. It is remarkable that Hitler achieved power considering his low birth because Germany was (and largely remains) a very class-conscious society. But Hitler's police goons kept everyone so suppressed that no effective resistance could be mounted. Well, that's if you don't count the 42 verifiable assassination attempts made on him. Too bad someone didn't just shoot him in 1938. We'd live in a different world today if that happened.

I saw There Will Be Blood the other day with Daniel Day-Lewis. It came out in late 2007, I think, but it is still worth a watch. Great performance about an original robber baron.

I also saw There Will Be Blood quite recently, it was absolutely great in my opinion.
Haven't seen Slumdog, I wanna see it because of the hype but I don't think I'll be too fussed.

I really enjoyed Valkyrie and enjoy it even more since it can be shown in schools -- which was one on Tom Cruise's criteria when negotiating the script.

Well, talking about Stauffenberg there is still the side that he was really into this system. Otherwise he couldn't came that close to Hitler. Good thing, he turned around and did the right thing. But he's definitely an all around Hero or something.

Heh watching the films of books your supposed to read for book clubs? Isn't it about time we admit that these are just excuses to go round a friends house and drink? ;)

P.S. I recently saw Cloverfield and thought that was pretty cool. Wasn't sure about the whole hand held camera thing at first but I think they pulled it off.
