Actually, this causes so much confusion because:

In vanilla:
Light cavalry = hussar, uhlan etc.
Heavy cavalry = cuirassier, oprichnik etc.
Ranged cavalry = dragoons, war wagons, cavalry archers etc.

In TAD:

Light cavalry = Ranged cavalry = dragoons, war wagons etc.
Heavy cavalry = cuirassier, oprichnik etc.

But the thing is, there nothing called heavy cavalry in vanilla, there they are called "hand cavalry"

And hand cavalry is all cavalry melee units.

That's what causes confusion imo.

Light cavalry was never the same as Ranged cavalry, it's only that people misunderstood the difference between Light cavalry and Heavy cavalry.

i think there was a big discussion about this earlier on in the thread and aaryn gend suggested there was a lot of factors determining the catagory the cavalry unit fell under

the same on vanilla imo, on vanilla only skirms (xbows etc.) are light infantry and on tad they are not cause light inf in tad is coyoterunner, tigerclaw, etc. thats much more wierd

Pikes, Musketeers, etc "2x Bonus vs Cavalry, anything with 'cavalry' tag falls under this"
Yumi Archers, Skirmishers, Abas gun/Grenadier, etc "0.8 vs HAND cavalry, 2x vs. LIGHT cavalry <no it does not say ranged cavalry, don't ask why>)

But seeing as the terms 'light cavalry' and 'heavy cavalry' are not used in the counter system, we can replace them with 'ranged cavalry' and 'Hand Cavalry' respectively.

Case Closed











But hussars, Uhlans and Cossacks are still technically Heavy Cavalry (same tags as Gendarme)

A simple counter system:

Anything on a horse that can shoot < Skirmishers
Anything on a horse that can't shoot < Anything on a horse that can shoot
Anything NOT on a horse and has a range of 12 or less < Skirmishers
Skirmishers < Anything on a horse that can't shoot[/quote]
