How do you get free Mercs?
I thought mercs were only OP in age3, since in age4 u get outmassed too easily

Re: Which is Most OP in NR10
you get free mercs with the german tech Wallenstein's Contracts(Verträge ), which lowers the cost for mercenearies to 0 Coin.
However, you can get this tech only by sending the advanced church card
AWWWW there goes ronin spamming
You don't need it if you ship in mamelukes, barbary corsairs, stradiots, 10 Fusiliers, black riders, landsknechts and jaegers back-to-back-to-back. You need 5500 gold to pull this off: 4000 for Wallenstein at the Church, then 1500 for mercantilism. Basically, it's all-or-nothing, but most TR 20 is a one-shot deal anyway.
Now that I think of it, it costs 2000 to send each mercenary army, and if you pay 4000 for Wallenstein, it doesn't gain you anything until you send the third merc shipment, which seems unlikely.

Despite the mercs being free, they take up a hellova lot of population and can be outmassed easily in the 4th age.
Right??
Any civ can train spies, if you are playing an nr20 and the german dude seems to have a fail score start spy spamming

I did a test run with this last night. By treaty end I had two full merc armies ready to go. Thing is, there was not much RI in there: Just 8 Jaegers. There were 7 LKs, 7 corsairs, 7 BRs, 4 mamelukes and 5 stradiots. That is not enough to really crush an enemy, especially if they have lots of HI or massed, upped cav. I think it's better to just train guard level units with Heavy cannon support from the factories.

Yeah, when I was playing those NR 45 games in nilla, I always made like massive merc armies but they were so pop heavy that I couldn't manage that many of them. They did like enough damage to slow them down but that's it. Mercs after age 2 or age 3 are pointlessly ineffective.

Re: Which is Most OP in NR10
I like Fusiliers and Elmeti in Age 4, but there are much more viable regular-type units available by that stage at Guard level. The only exception is a FI strat where you dump Age IV mercs on a guy still in Age 2 or 3. That is effective... just ask Sporting or Drew about Port Elmeti in Age 4!

Re: Which is Most OP in NR10
What i really struggled against back in TWC when i played NR10 for some games was this otto FI revolt on carolina. All other matchups were mostly FF wars with good armies.
I did a Ronin FF back in the days with this saloon card. It worked ok, but i'm not sure about the bo anymore. I think in 10 minutes you can have 10-12 ronins with some organs and cassadores. So all opponent cav will die like flies, but vs massed RI you'll be screwed.
BR are a broken unit to go with a broken civ like sioux not much you can do vs them. If you make LI the sioux just add in some AR.
That's... incredibly warped.
For a Sioux to have a LOT of BR, lets say 30 - would be a huge strain on their eco.
100+75 = 175 res (iirc) x 30 = 5250 res
Now, assuming your opponent takes your stance of SIOUX OP BR we can assume you do your best to counter with your meager age 2 LI, Xbow for example.
40+40 = 80 res (lets not be pedantic about wood gather rate here, folks).
5250/80 = 65 Xbows.
So, in a resource - resource colonial battle it's quite clear around 60 Xbows could take half as many BR.
Add onto this that the Sioux econ is pretty diabolical, unless they have complete access to hunts they cannot keep up with any euro/asian civ.
As for AR, 160+40 = 200, for every AR they could have you can have 2 Pikemen. And if we consider the realistic econ bonus it could be more.
So, 30 BR + 10 AR vs 60 Xbow + 20 Pikemen I think I know who I'm betting on.
Sorry, but BR/AR is pretty shocking in 1v1 - Sioux are bad if you remember to stick 5 or so Pikes on any risky hunts early game.
LI+Pikes (without suiciding your pikes into BR) > Sioux until Fortress.
Dunno why I felt the need to post this response, but well I didn't agree

Re: Which is Most OP in NR10
Considering that they can get 30 BR before you can get 65 Xbows, and that this is an Nr10 chat so they wouldnt be using Xbows anyway...
