A real news story:

"PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — A man faces a domestic battery charge after allegedly hitting his girlfriend with a sandwich as she was driving.

Police said the 19-year-old man became angry and hit the woman in the arm and face with a sandwich, knocking her glasses off, as she was driving along Interstate 95 on Friday.

The victim nearly lost control of the car because she couldn't see the road. Her boyfriend then allegedly ripped off the rear-view mirror and used it to shatter the windshield.

He was arrested, jailed and later freed on $7,500 bail.

Police haven't said what type of sandwich was involved."

And yes, the last sentence is in the article. While I NEVER advocate violence and I see the glaring problem with the act of the guy, I found the article amusing to say the least.

This article falls into what the news media calls the "curious or bizarre" category. If you think about it, there is not all that much time for major broadcasters to cover all important national and world news. Yet they always reserve some time for this kind of wacky stuff, which is so ridiculous it brings a smile to your face. Local news does it even more than national news, such as when they talk about people cooking their underwear while singing showtunes in front of their neighbors... you know the type... then the neighbors say: "He was always very quiet," or "He kept to himself, mostly." Afterward, the commentator makes a witty comment, then they go to commercial.
