This sounds like a corporate squeeze-out of the worst variety. It sounds pretty clear from the article that Ensemble is done as a Microsoft entity. But it's less clear if that means ESO will shut down. After all, AOE2 maintained an online presence from 1999 until 2006. Microsoft controlled Ensemble from 2001 onwards, so who knows what will happen now. Hopefully Ensemble will maintain some independence and dedicate some resources to keeping the site alive. At least, that's what we can hope for. In any event, I'm surprised.

Man just after i finally found a clan where that helped me get more involved in aoe. Also now I hate playing the computer unless i want a nice relaxing game. The comp is easy and predictable and at 40 minutes it pretty much becomes a wimp and does little attacking

Yep, no more Age of Empires.

Sorry guys. I guess we should have seen this coming, with Halo Wars and the direction of Microsoft in general.

Still pretty surprising.

From age sanc quoted from someone quoting Lethe(Es guy):
i just figured id copy paste lethe's statement here
QUOTE(Lethe)
Paragon, Solus, MrMilo and I are not the happiest about this, but there is nothing we can do but keep on trucking until they close the doors.

We're all still here, no one got fired. I have no idea about plans for ESO/AgeCommunity going forward and I'm sure those questions will be answered in the future.

So keep on playing!.

i.e.; vista, word 2007 initially incompatible w/ 2003, etc..

After the closure, the Ensemble leadership team will form a new studio and has agreed to provide ongoing support for Halo Wars as well as work on other projects with Microsoft Game Studios.
I don't think there will be any problems, it just won't be ES anymore
