Unit Combinations

What's your favourite base unit combinatoin and why?

For Aztec, I think Coyotes / Jag Prowlers works really well.

(1) It's pretty pop efficent.

(2) It covers all the counter bases with just 2 units!

(3) Both units can stealth if you want them too.

(4) Both are food heavy, so, you can upgrade your food collection and that works for both units.

lately I've had fun going full ruyters, they pwn, but add a few falconets and it's a killer combo

Do Ruyters cut it on their own? They'd get slaughtered by Maces for example - hence the artillery combo!

They seem to be like faster, cheaper, pop inefficent Eagles.

Why do you like them so much?

occasionally ill go all wakina +warclub and ill add on the teepee construction / boost / speed increase blahblah.. its pretty intense if i can get there >:]

Call me old-school if you like: X-bow/pike

Throw in a cav card and you can beat most unit combinations/house people. Simple for most civ's to do and only requires eco management on 2 fronts, wood & food.

ruyters are simply amasing, they might even break even with maces, but anyway, they run off and some hussars or falcs will deal with the rock-throwing vermins :p
the heavy gold production dutch have make em almost free units ;)

Yes. This is my British 20nr combo:

(1) 40 Redcoats with 8 Black Guard Highlanders from the Church (25% upgrade HP, too, from Thin Red Line);

(2) 8-10 King's Life Guard Hussars (more if he has culvs);

(3) at least 4 INFINITE rockets from HC (with more to come!)

But, a smurf did stop me with the French last night. He had 9 heavy cannons, skirms and then a gendarme mass.

As far as my rush combos go, I have several favorites, but Age 3 veteran skirm/veteran uhlan is my favorite. If you have enough uhlans, they act as anticav, and the skirms clear out any anticav infantry/dragoons they may have. Plus you can keep ship in massive quantities of each unit from the HC.

In the old days, I used to really like Jaegers/Landsknecht/uhlan. Of course, you can never get that much gold together fast enough anymore :neutral:

For the Brits I have to say I love LB/pike. It's better than xbow/pike and, as Soccer said, all ya need is wood n' food. Basic and strong, without any cav requirement. In fact, it neutralizes the cav problem if handled right.

When playing Dutch my fav combo (saloon permiting) is mass falcs and any of the OP anti cav mercs ( swiss pikes, black riders). If the saloon decides that the merc is the big daddy of cannons than thats what ill mass and protect it with ruyter/ running halbs. I really kinda miss it tbh.
