Water Booming Semi-FF verses a rush civ

Post by Palehorse »

What civs can do it and against which civs? Are there civs whose rush is just too strong?

What shipments, defensive structures, military (buildings) are needed to keep you alive until your out ecoing them?

Is a water boom viable verses shrine spam?

Basically any civ with schooners should try to water boom at some point. Ports are the best at water booming because they can use their extra TC as costal defense. I think If you suspect any civ of rushing you then you should delay your water boom until you have a rax and some troops to defend with.

With regards to the shrine spam I think the shrine boom is faster and will get a strong eco quicker, but the water boom once it gets going will be much stronger. The problem is the Jap will have already been in a position to wipe you out before your superior economy kicks in. I say this because I can get 20 shrines up and running much quicker than 20 fishing boats.

Yes, both will have same eco but japan will have superior units :\

I think it's not good to water boom vs rush.

So, on Borneo for example, verses a known good Japanese player, use the FR strat (Fast Resign).

Ottoman has a great water boom as villagers are still produced automatically. It also has great surprise level at lower PR as everyone expects a plain jann/abus rush.

Send schooners as first card and if 300 wood start only build one house and then build dock as you send card and put 4 settlers on wood. Put fish boats to food and hit age 2 asap. Move more to wood in transition and on large fish maps use 400 wood poli to build barracks and second dock. Else go for barracks, church, market. Sending hussars as first age 2 ship can be fun and can disguise plan. Then put enough settlers on wood/gold to allow continual fishing boat/house/jann build.

On 200 wood maps, go for normal age up and then put all settlers on wood in transition to get wood for dock, queued fishing boat and house asap. Then as above.

Playing defensively is boring.
Ships are boring.
Booming is boring.

Rushing is more fun. :)

Seriously, though, I'd suggest against fish booming. It's incredibly lame and boring. Just play China and rush. :D
Groovy.

Well in team games I would say it's a good tactic to fishboom, it can win you the game. With some civs you need to fishboom (ports) in order to make a chance. And nav that your comp can't handle the sea doesn't mean that it's not usefull or boring :P

On Age Sanctuary is a game between Nedzi and Damnit. Ports vs Iros. The Port Dude did a water boom and could defend the attacks from Damnit.

imho ports can be removed from the game... they tend to turtle each game and on water maps they are a real pain to beat.

friggin boring civ to face...
