This is crazy

The fact that he is the only candidate that has openly admitted he will cut funding to NASA (already pennies of the national budget and one of the few government agencies to actually make a return on investment) is enough for me to run to the lesser evil (McCain), but this is just crazy.

OBAMA'S PLAN TO DISARM AMERICA

You would think its photoshoped, how can a candidate be that stupid? Unproven missile defense systems? Remember that satellite that was recently shut down because of "dangerous" hypergols still in the vehicle? That was successful, and guess what, it was nothing more than a demonstration to the world it does work. Vehicles routinely enter Earth's atmosphere with spent fuels aboard. I happen to sleep a little better knowing we can shoot down ballistic nuclear warheads from rouge nations.

In the event that China decides to mobilize it's 1.2 million man standing army against the U.S., I take some comfort knowing that we, at the present, have the ability to turn them into a crispy #42 with rice. Obama's Wilsonian wish list will take away our ability to protect ourselves, and in turn give away the farm. How is your Mandarin? Kung pow doesn't count.

Regardless of how you feel about Reagan and Bush Sr., they brought down the Berlin wall and communism in Russia without firing a bullet.

“ Throughout history, the great nations have been the ones at the forefront of the frontiers of their time. Britain became great in the17th century through its exploration and mastery of the seas. America's greatness in the 20th century stemmed largely from its mastery of the air. For the next generations, the frontier will be space.”

if we all loved each other and didnt want to fight and stuff then we wouldnt need war.. but religion seems to get in the way of all that and unfortunately the goal of "world peace" would most likely mean a universal religion, otherwise conflict occurs :[

as much as i love chinese food and eastern culture i have always felt that the chinese and japanese have kept a deep seated resentment of america close to their hearts, but i cannot blame them. i hate mickey mouse/mcdonalds/burgerking too =D

in short we are going to be pwnt by china, neat! id still vote for obama though, mccain is just a bush wannabe and id rather vote for a dude that is at least TRYING to fix our country in a peaceful way, rather than a guy that wants to blow up iraqi's civilians and soldiers alike for some incredibly obscure reason

If this is real, I would support Obama even more if I lived in the US.

I could write 1.000.000 reasons why this makes so much sense but havent got the time.

Go barack, go go barack go.

The idea of disarming America at the present is a very dangerous idea. Even our neighbors (and allies) become automatically endangered if that happens.

Anyone that's worried about being taken over by China needs to not spend their tax refund (where'd you think that money came from?) and stop shopping at Wal-Mart....

much ado about nothing.

pulling missiles off "hair-trigger alert" - they already are. Check.
stop funding "unproven missile defense" - you don't need to worry about the proven ones, it's those unproven ones that he's talking about.

This is pure political pap where he hasn't actually said anything. Essentially every statement in there can be recanted, twisted, denied, reconfigured, etc. as needed later.

And China is not going to overtake us militarily - not for a long time. That should be the least of our worries, and the least of theirs for that matter. A war in China for the foreseeable future would end in a few dams being blown and a humanitarian disaster of unprecedented scope. America needs to worry about keeping her people competitive in a global market where intelligence is becoming a commodity. China needs to worry about making sure their best and brightest don't exit stage right due to lack of reward for their efforts or oppression. They've got to get free while staying stable, or they are going to suffer a Soviet style collapse due to internal social pressures. All the while, their gravy manufacturing sector is bleeding from increasing global competition. I think we all have enough to think about.

I also disagree with the cut in funding but dont think theres a direct return on investment.

Not quite correct. Perestroika actually came about much due 2 Mr Mikhail Gorbachev´s own will 2 end it. Ronny play a key role, yes, but Micky actualy pulled the strings. George was still deep inside the Saudi´s pocket and worried about sorting out his son.

Pls explain...

I kinda agree. But this is mostly due 2 the very wrong foreign policies the last 3-4 administrations have enforced.

Out

This is bad lol. Do you all want to go to war that badly?

The only thing I can agree about is cutting NASA funding. It only makes sense if you want to put that money in other research area's because you think they are wasting tax payers money. Research with a bigger return on investment.

"Disarm" america? The country that spends more on military than the rest of the world combined? Why do you feel the need to be able to take on the rest of the world while you only have 2 neighbours, canada and mexico, who are not exactly military minded?

Maybe, just maybe, Obama is talking about spending just a little less and not making the shareholders of the military industrial complex so happy?
Maybe a little less weapons on the world wouldnt hurt anyone? a weapon never made, cant be used. Look at all those conflicts being fought with cold war leftovers: somalia, congo, ...?

A missile shield?
1. Does it work? Planning half a year to shoot down a stationary satellite isnt like taking down 25 ballistic missiles heading for the white house.
2. Do you need it? Having boomers with ballistic missiles should be enough to frighten any rogue state.
3. If it does work, wouldnt a smart rogue state just find another way to blast the US to pieces. Pearl harbor happenend, twin towers happened, an enemy wont attack you where you have a fine defense system.
4. Dont you realise a missile shield frighten other states like Russia en China? For them nuclear weapons have been the assurance the US would never risk a war against them. Now they can hit you with their nukes - and they cant fire back. Communist never planned a strike on europe to throw over capitalism. They were just afraid the west would strike to end communism. Reagan didnt end communism. It was just a bad system. A human is a selfish narrow minded being much better suited for capitalism.
5. Weapons lead to war.

The chinese arent interested in the US. Conflicts in the next 50 years will be about superpowers - US, China, India, russia securing resources all over the globe.

Im not saying, disarm. No you need firepower to back up your words. But US allready has got more guns then any other nation. Isnt enough enough?

By the way, why would China attack the US, it's even more devastating if they won't ship anything anymore to them (including money)

Except on aoe3 (if you don't think so, I challenge you for 1v1 where you may not make war :))

Missile shields are useless when you're attacked by planes :\

@luukje,
I would cut NASA funding, and not research anything else. I don't view research as the job of the government.

Who exactly are the "shareholders of the military industrial complex"? That's one of those scary sounding words that's pretty much BS if you start to try to pin it down. If you're talking about members of Congress shuttling defense projects back to their districts, then you should be for McCain over Obama.

Re: missile shield - yes it works. Probably can't take out 25 missiles, but certainly one or a small handful. Agree with you on the comments on twin towers etc., although you won't like my solution to such things (hint: it's not the job of government to stop hijackers).

Re: "frighten any rogue state" - ROFLMAO.

Re: "Communist never planned a strike on europe" - Besides taking over Eastern Europe and having the explicit stated intention to take over the world (which includes Europe I think, but I am publicly educated in the U.S. system), I completely agree with you (flagrant sarcasm alert). And Reagan certainly was a critical piece to the collapse of the Soviet Union (which was neither communist, nor did it's collapse "end communism"). The pressures on the Soviet economy due to the arms race were a critical component to the collapse.

Re: "Weapons lead to war" - and so do the lack of weapons.

Governement has a job in supporting research on many ways. Not directly, but by tax cuts, universities,... because if you leave it to the market alone, they will go for

The military industrial complex is a scarry word yes, sticking in the back of my head from several punk song lyrics. But do you really want some **** Cheny owned company calling the shots in washington? We can all see what that got the US: an utterly aimless and useless war.

Frighten: A failing missile system is bad for the US. A working missile system is bad news for the whole world, including the US. Just reverse the roles, how would you feel if China announced 7 times a year it had a system that can neutralise all US nuclear capacity.

Or how save would the world be if some crazy dictator feels he can uses nukes without retaliation. Now you got nukes an the other guys have nukes, so better not use them.

THe soviet economy colleapsed because communism doenst work.
