Well, after a little chat with Chocosanta, I tried using the Russians for the first time last weekend.

The results were amazing.

I played a Lieutenant Colonel earlier - he was dutch. He scouted my FB with his envoy, I sent 13 strels as my 2nd card, and 5 cossacks soon after. My cossacks owned his skirms while my strels (mixed in with some muskets later) took down his pikes and TC...

So I just wanted to thank Choco for his helpful advice, and I think I bagged myself a new favorite civ!
