Zerg:

Drone - Basic worker unit
Queen - Base management / defense caster
Overlord - air unit, has no attack (it's a flying house with large LOS)
Overseer - morphs from Overlord, can detect stealthed units
Zergling - Fast / Cheap ground melee unit
Baneling - morphs from Zergling, it's an aoe suicide unit, can only attack ground
Roach - Short range ground tank with high dmg ground-to-ground attack
Hydralisk - ranged attack unit, can attack ground and air
Infester - Ground support caster
Ultralisk - heavy ground tank, good against buildings, only attacks ground
Mutalisk - basic air unit, can attack ground and air
Corrupter - anti-air air unit, can only attack air
Brood Lord - mutates from Corrupter, air unit that can only attack ground

Terran:

SCV - worker unit
Marine - basic cheap ranged infantry, can attack ground and air
Reaper - light infantry, can cliff-jump, short ranged attack, only attacks ground
Marauder - heavy infantry, only attacks ground, high dmg ranged attack
Ghost - expensive infantry caster unit, long ranged attack against ground and air
Hellion - fast automobile unit, has flamethrower attack, only attacks ground
Siege Tank - mech unit, only attack ground, has long range siege mode
Viking - has two modes, ground and air. ground mode attacks ground, air mode attacks air. good against big air units in air mode, weak attack in ground mode
Thor - heavy mech unit, has aoe ground to air attack, has slow heavy ground to ground attack
Banshee - air unit that only attacks ground, can stealth
Medivac - air transport, can heal infantry
Raven - air caster unit, no attack
Battlecruiser - huge expensive air unit, powerful against ground and air

Protoss:

Probe - basic worker unit

Stalker - ranged mech, attacks ground and air
Immortal - ranged heavy mech, attacks ground only
Colossus - ranged huge mech, attack ground only, can be attacked by air to air attacks
High Templar - support caster, no attack
Dark Templar - stealthed light infantry, high dmg melee attack against ground
Archon - heavy support unit, short ranged attacks ground and air
Observer - stealth air unit detects stealthed units no attack no spells
Phoenix - light ranged air unit attacks air units but can lift ground units into air
Void Ray - heavy ranged air unit attacks air and ground
Carrier - huge air unit attacks air and ground
Mothership - support caster, high dmg attack, can only build one at a time
Warp Prism - air transport

I can't really list the entire counter system. Some units are hard counters, but most aren't. There are just too many different facets to the counters to list. Basically it's a feel thing. You have to pick a race and learn which units work in what situations. There are unit types though, and certain units have bonuses against those types.

There are armored units, which Marauders, Void Rays, Immortals, Siege Tanks have bonuses against. For example, Roaches are armored units, so they get clobbered by Marauders.

There are light units, which units like the Hellion have a bonus against. Hellions eat Zerglings alive for this reason.

There are massive units, which units like the Corrupter have a bonus against. Corrupters counter Carriers, Colossi, and Battlecruisers because of this.

what do you have to do if you preorder and get a beta key?
How do you get in on the beta?

make a battle.net account and download the client from there (activate your account with the beta key), then wait till download is completed (takes a long time), then wait till patches are completed (takes a long time) and then you can play ^^

WCG 2010 with SC 2 will be interesting (i'm assuming that it will be in there). I wonder if the Asian's will dominate as much as I think they will. A non-korean never won the SC1 title, and it was in the WCG from 2001-2009 I believe.
