So you think it needs to be replaced?

It's not just a case of simply replacing the motherboard, as many of the internal components will probably have to be replaced also. Also, I'm one of those people who tend to replace every component other than the malfunctioning one...

Hmm, do you have a 2nd or spare hard drive you could try? Another option would be to try flashing the BIOS (as mentioned already) you should be able to do this from a memory stick so you don't need to boot up in order to flash it.

+1 to Strokey's advice on troubleshooting.

I had a friend with more money than time, and he would use a Smith&Wesson 4506 (45 ACP) for PC troubleshooting. Expensive (not recommended for those on a budget (or where prohibited by law)) but strangely satisfying.
