Yeah true that. In AoE3 my apm was like 120-160, still I am not that good of an AoE player. I think you can achieve what I achieve with only an APM of like 60.

100% agreement with drew. The thing is that you do not have to do this trick to beat somebody who can do this trick. This only matters on very high lvl player games because every tiny advantace is very important. I think theres nothing bad at being fast and spamming much.
