Port-forwarding problem.
Sorry Mac, but this is nonsense if you use a router. The router needs to know to which pc in the net behind the router it should forward the incoming network packets of AOE3. Because of NAT (Network address translation) it doesn't know it.
The only other alternative is to put the pc in the DMZ(demilitarized zone) of the router. But this exposes the comp in total to the internet because all incoming packet will be delivered to the designated pc what i wouldn't recommend.
I proposed this as a test. I didn't realize someone would mistake my suggestion to use this test as a permanent solution.
On the other hand, the reason I suggest override ip address is because there are times when computers have difficulty with peer to peer connections with others outside the network. In essence the peers get confused about the ip address and have these kinds of problems. This seems to be common with n wireless routers for some reason especially if the other person also has an n router.
By using override address in the cfg file, there's less peer to peer confusion in these circumstances. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Anyway, congratulations on saving the day!

Thanks, Mac.
But i didn't cite ur override ip address recommendation, so i didn't refer to it.
I only referred to your recommendation that he should skip the port forwarding by deactivating the firewall. And this doesn't help at all, if u use a router with NAT (which are 99,9% of routers at home).

Marco

Re: Port-forwarding problem.
Did u forward it to ur computers ip address? Maybe the router gave ur comp a new ip address.

Re: Port-forwarding problem.
I managed to connect once, using bit torrent to open the 2300 port but then it stopped working after i stopped some downloads. Wouldn't work again after starting downloads again. Oh well, I'll try to get another game running later.
Re: Port-forwarding problem.
Make a screenshot of the port forwarding
and open the command line on ur computer and use the command "ipconfig" and also post the result here

Re: Port-forwarding problem.
He has a thompson router. In my experience of helping people with these (or talking to peopel who had them) these particular routers have huge troubles getting port-forwarded. Only thing that has seemd to work is the torrent thing.

Re: Port-forwarding problem.
Thanks for the help but I'm already at home now. I did post the screen a few posts ago.
Re: Port-forwarding problem.
U chose the wrong port forwarding screen. U chose the trigger forwarding. Is there no forwarding option to an ip address on antoher tab?
