It's quite common for people to root for the underdog when it's not their team playing.

As if Italy's football was beautiful when they won it in 2006. Zidane vs Materazzi? Sheissload of penalties? Ugly as hell games?
I didn't see the game, but Italy got what they deserved

Firstly, it is football, NOT soccer. Secondly, yes, Italy are partly responsible for making football what it is today, a sport full of cheating, diving, sneaky faking low-lifes. Whatever skill any of their players have had is no better than players found everywhere else in the world, so take them out of the football equation and you have lost nothing of any significance from the game.

Anyone who is in their right mind would cheer for Slovakia because unless you are Italian you want to see Italy lose, it's a simple as that.

Soccer is american english
Football is british english
Since u are traditional concerning football, it should also be football for you because football was developed in England so u should then also use the british phrase :-P
Quite strange that u want to lecture a brit as a foreign speaker how football is called

Nobody. But everybody cares about Italy's lose and is happy.

Re: World Cup Discussion
stil it's better to say soccer to avoid confusion. when i say soccer everybody knows what i mean. football could be ambigious and in fact it is ;-)
Re: World Cup Discussion
Confusion?? U must be kidding. Never got it wrong. U always know by context what kind of football is meant
