I feel the same way like Cammel. I'll only buy SC2 if Caesár and some other friends will get it as well, though i won't have any time to get to know strategies and units then. And i highly doubt it will be fun to get kicked around by "low-skilled" players.

Well I never played the original Starcraft, but I guess I have gotten caught up in the excitement of you guys and after reading up on it and watching some vids, I am very much looking forward to the release. i just wish I could find a pre-order site in the UK that gives away free betas. :(

Huggy, the matchmaking system on SC 2 is unreal. I've played about 60 games on it so far, and the longest it has taken for me to get a game is 47 seconds... yes 47 seconds...

And it's designed for competitive play, so all matches are nearly even and very enjoyable.

And TBH, since you are pretty experienced in RTS and were pretty good at AOE, you won't have any problems picking up SC 2. Things like hotkeys and ctrl groups come natural and it makes picking up another game easy. Hell, I made it platinum and I really don't even understand the counter system but I understand RTS in general. No excess resources, grouping units together, flanking, researching upgrades, etc...

^Exactly. From what i've seen of AOE transition to SC 2, it looks like this (generally speaking anyway).

PR 1-15 -> Copper League
PR 16-22-> Bronze League
PR 23-28-> Silver League
PR 29-33-> Gold League
PR 34+ -> Platinum League

Within each leauge (as it stands now) there are 100+ divisions of 100 players. So right now each leauge has about 10 000 + players. I believe there are nearly 100 000 people on the beta currently. Biggest beta ever I believe. Especially since if you preorder you get a beta key. Great business move from Blizzard.

it's pretty easy to reach platinum atm i guess it will take 3 months after release for the rating system to settle down :-)

quote from teamliquid:
- B.net league placements aren't that relevant. Your Platinum spot doesn't mean anything.

Well, you do have to win all 5 placement matches to make it to platinum, so it does say something (and you have to be on veteran option I believe). Of course the rating system will mean more once the game evolves as well.

It's not that different from other games. I usually have a harder time playing a platinum player than a gold player. I did however think the system placed players a bit better when you needed to play 10 placement matches as opposed to 5.

Well, I'm sorta high in Gold league so you might be overestimating that a bit. On the other hand, I always thought I was a bit better than PR 25 (never played enough rated).

However, I also expect to get dropped down to silver once the game is released and more people are playing. Or maybe not. We'll see. Surely staying near the top of Gold league is my long term ambition. Maybe with your help I can make platinum ;)
