Nespresso, what else?

Post by luukje »

Ok guys, seems like being a thirty something for a few years now, has affected my view on being a shameless consumer of all things shiny and new. So this weekend I gifted myself a brand new Nespresso Citiz machine, and it makes a fanastic coffee.
And Im not feeling a tad guilty about buying one.
All say "heeey" for this capatalist swine and for me succumbing to the ultimate symbol of marketing and consumerism.

Im the proud owner of the Nespresso Cube and force the wife 2 order 30 packets a month. The variety of the various coffees they offer is as abundant as the quality of the flavours. What makes a huge diference from other machines is the pressure the water is injected into the capsules, and its this that allows for that amazing thick consistancy (foamy on top)the coffee shows.

The immense agressive, yet somewhat glamorous, marketing which this brand has been in tune with is another thing going for the huge European success story. What are things like on the "other side" of the water?

I worked in a law firm that was very proud of the Nespresso machine it kept in the unglamorous break room. But that was a rarity; it's not very popular over here. You see an ad for it once in a while; that's about it. Like luukje said, there are really too many competitors over here for Nespresso to make an impression in the market.

I really liked it when I used it. They had a great variety of flavors, and I loved the idea that it made high-quality Joe so quickly. For a guy who needs rapid caffeine fixes a half-dozen times a day, Nespresso definitely got the job done.

I drink coffee by the gallon. This looks great, but it's a long way from my $9 (that's about 0.06 Euro for you guys across the pond) coffee maker and $6 bags of coffee. I did finally get a grinder ($20?). This thing is just too classy for me, but I have to admit it would be great. :-D
