April 1st Virus
I heard from the news that there was people who implanted viruses in computers and thsoe virus will start their destructive work only April 1st...
Which we are. Does anybody has more information about it?
Anyway it seems that it is another a fake-exxagerated- rumour like the famous Year 2000 Bug.

Re: April 1st Virus
Actually this was a real virus, it is transferred in attachments on emails. The news came out on March 31st. As far as I know the only way to know if you have it or not is to go to the Microsoft homepage, and if you can't load the page then you have the virus. Basically what the virus does, or at least my understanding of it is, it allows the creator of the virus to remotely access your computer, especially the hardware (there were cases of peoples webcams taking pictures of them then sending them to the creator) It turns out this virus was just one of many that has been created by a group of 14-15 year old Russian kids.
(Not sure how much of this is 100% valid, it's just my general understanding of it)

Re: April 1st Virus
ok people like you i thought at the beginning(like a few days ago) that this would be an april fools day prank
BUT think of it, they could easily abuse the april fools day to make people think they're safe, so don't take it easily.
i heard that keeping the anti virus software up-to-date and googling about any new information is the safest way to approach this

Yeah Aaryn,
I heard the same thing...
well keep your anti-virus, firewall up to date.
Dont open any e-mails you suspect.
Put strong passwords.
Like for exemple:
You password airplane.
Instead put stuff like:
a1rp!an3

This virus is called 'Conficker' and it is real. It is already on millions of Computers which weren't patched properly. The virus is able to update itself via P2P or websites. There is even a "Conficker Working Group" which tries to keep the impact of Conficker as low as possible by e.g. blocking domains from which Conficker gets the Updates. Nobody knows what the virus programmer wants to do with it but he can do a lot of damage if he wants to attack.
Passwords won't help here much since the virus infects the comp when u are logged on and it also infects via the autorun function.
It tries then also to log admin passwords, blocks virus software etc.
Best way to get rid of it is a new install.
If u don't want to have it, keep patches up-to-date

^LOL
I'm of the opinion that ignorance is happiness so I just keep my McAffee auto-updating and believe that just because he says there are no virus detected there are no virus really. So keeping faith on McAffee actually makes you believe that those kind of evil stuff created and to be created aren't affecting you!

Your idea isn't a bad one Sporting, Only I try to learn about trojans due to my computer being the most secure in my house, so I make my parents do their bills and stuff on it. (because I go after trojans specifically is probably why mine is the most secure lol)

Re: April 1st Virus
The fact is, I heard about this virus several months ago. They knew it was set to go off on April 01, but they couldn't stop it... This was back in .... November, I think.
Re: April 1st Virus
Test for COnficker infection
Just go to this website(s)
http://www.confickerworkinggroup.org/in ... chart.html
http://iv.cs.uni-bonn.de/fileadmin/user ... fdetector/
They aren't able to detect the first version of Conficker since it had no DNS blocking features
