Yeah, how do they fight with those lampshades on ?? Maces have some funky wings on, too.

Beat an Indian as Iroquois last night. After I hit fortress I did a dash for imperial to drop light cannons.
* 3 privateers card for 500 gold seriously owns the water in colonial
* 5 curraisers for 500 gold is great in early fortress.
* That 4 light cannon card is seriously op!

I remember my noob days when I used the priest as a scout.
I agree with Hydrovert. The firepit adds a new dimension to your gameplay and does take skill and real thought to master.
Dont underestimate the firepit !
used well the pit gives you the edge in a game and can turn a losing game into a winning game; its happened to me many times
The key to pit management is:
1 be patient
2 know when and what to do at key times in the game with your pit and
3 actively use your pit and dont forget about it ! which many make a mistake of doing.
(ive just had an idea i may post a strat exclusively on pit management, some players could find it helpful; cough--look at previous posts---cough !!!
watch this space)
btw i like the skull knight head gear. looks like their wearing a head band with butterflies dangling on sticks.

Re: TWC civs should never be underestimated ! !
One of the best things about Aztec, in my opinion, is the puma spearman. This guy is way better than a normal pikeman and he only costs a few more resources. He does as much damage to cavalry as a colonial doppelsoldner (60) at half the price, train time and pop space. They do 36 damage to light infantry, far outstripping 24 for regular pikemen. They do 48 siege damage, far outstripping the regular pikeman's 32. I know the early Aztec econ depends on food/wood for mace/coyote and pumas cost gold, but I find the puma to be the real trump card, at least when I play against them as Germans. If my xbows can't kill the pumas, my uhlans go down in milliseconds. And I'll tell you: it ain't easy to micro down 6 or 10 pumas when 19 maces, maybe 2 SKs, a horde of pets and 5-8 coyotes are bearing down on you at 6:30!
What do real Aztec players think of pumas? From the other side of the fence, I am scared of em !!

I would take normal pikes over the puma spearman any day.
they look good on paper but their cost is really annoying early game.

I figured that might be the case. When you have a food/wood econ, I know how difficult it can be to squeeze in a coin unit when you have only a small economy. I guess that's how it is with pumas... but I still worry about them when I wheel out the uhlans !

Pumas are a good unit.
That they cost gold instead of wd doesn't matter too much. You often have a bit of gold around anyway from picking up treasures, starting gold, etc.
Pumas start getting fun when you ship the age 3 merc shipment for them, giving them a speed of 6. You can raid buildings with them, and most of the units that might hurt them you can outrun. Plus, with a speed of 6, it becomes easier to hit cav with them.

No way, lol. 40w is in vs the same as 48g, and that siege is just insane. You can't make them early early on but you can get shipped pumas for that effort.I would take normal pikes over the puma spearman any day.

i disagree.
try massing them and you'll see it's really hard. Stat-wise they are good but in practice they don't cut it. Im agine aztecs with pikes, I think they would be really OP.

I'll wait for someone to corroborate my opinion :p
Re: TWC civs should never be underestimated ! !
im not good at the stats but i have to say from personal experience, since azt are wood and food intensive its very rare that i would spam puma's or even produce them in the first age.
Having said that, it would depend on the civs im up against. I know if i was up against sioux/germans for example i would spam a few puma's sacraficing less wood.
*However having said all that who needs puma at the early stages when you can get 2 knight skulls and 3 jags ! ! !
But i do agree with the majority puma's are a vital unit the longer a game is played.

Re: TWC civs should never be underestimated ! !
I'm definitely going to try out the TWC civs more after reading this topic. I have always ignored them a lot because I originally thought having no cannons couldn't possibly stand up to the vanilla civs' cannons. I also never really used my fire pit much the few times I have used them :? I need to take a break from the asian civs and learn to ignore the allure and flexibility of the consulate for a little while.
Re: TWC civs should never be underestimated ! !
the first wood-upgrade in TWC market is annoying as hell for me. why is it so expensive ?!
&as for the puma spearman question, they are great anti cav :] / towndestroyers
i havent played aztecs lately though, they are op so :| dont like that.
sioux ftw
