The Ashigaru Xarxes Entrapment (The AXE)

Post by Hydrovert5 »

This is a Japanese strategy that was given to me by a close friend. The general idea is to have as many Ashigaru in your opponent's base as possible.

Required Cards
5 Ashigaru
300 Wood
600 Wood
Age 2 Daimyo

Recommended Cards
Ashigaru Attack (15%)
Heavenly Kalmi
600 Coin
4 Villagers

Build order
All vills to crates, queue vills. All vills go to food.
Split your two monks and go for lightly guarded food and coin treasures, building shrines wherever animals are present (preferably near your base)
First card should be 300 wood.
Age with the Golden Pavallion. Build the wonder with 4 vills.
All new vills go to food.
During transition, get about 6 vills to wood. You only need 200 wood for your barracks.
With your 300 wood, build a consulate and preserve the other 100 wood. (your consulate option will be Isolationism)
When you hit age 2, your second shipment will be 600 wood.
Use all this wood to make shrines.
Queue Ashigaru from your barracks. Your next two shipment will be 5 Ashigaru.
Go on the offensive with your Ashigaru and try to contain your opponent. If he makes RI, send your daimyo from the HC and make some Naginata Riders.

Note: You don't need any villagers on wood during the colonial fighting. You only need 200 wood whilst aging up to build a barracks.

Credit to LuCaRiO17 for this strategy.

This is my first write-up so please ask if anything is unclear.

Sounds good in theory but I think some estimates on the time you attack and the amount of ashi you have at that point is needed to get an idea of how effective it is. Also whats the amount of vils you need on gold to keep up constant ashi spam? I haven't quite worked this out myself yet.

Cool name for a strat btw.

Works fine against a slower nation, but wouldn't work against a fast rush. Against say an Iro rush you need to send a military ship first or you will be swamped in about 5 mins.

Maybe one for larger maps?

ashi-spam...

anyway, I find the club/ashi rush one of the best strats japan has atm, it's devastating once you are familiar with the (rather easy) BO

Its a vgood strat very easy to learn, ive only plyd a cople of stomps with japs until yesterday when i read this and give it a go.

i set my shrines to gold and put 4 vills on gold, when the food /gold balance needed it that seemed to work well

Well, the 10 unit batch upgrade isn't really useful, it's just nice to have in long games, like treaty. Otherwise, just go with clubmen. In supremacy games, you need as many guys as early as possible.

I think the bushido tech (10 units thing) is near OP... but after 10 min or so... but yes, before that, build the clubmen or those stealthty bowmen

Bushido tech is OP, common, 10 unit batches are you kidding? You queued one and right in the end, with your OP shrine eco, you task the other 9! That's priceless as it's way not the same as having two raxs.
