ah didn't even notice that it was 5400 rpm. Thanks for pointing that out. Maybe I'll keep it if I get SSD for windows/games like aaryn suggested, otherwise I'll get a 7200 rpm.

Thanks for the input about the HD screen adder. I already have a TV for my PS3, but wasn't sure if it would make a difference for my computer games. If i want to go HD anyone have a suggestion of model/brand to look at?

So I'll wait to hear what more people have to say, but it sounds like sandy bridge is the CPU to beat for today? I guess I'll wait then. Going to be tough though..

Found some new HDDs
Not sure if people can see this link or not..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productco ... 136-456-TS

If it doesn't, here are the three I'm looking at

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136592
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136456

Does anyone feel it's worth it to pay double the price for the 2TB drive as compared to the 1TB?
Does the SATA 6.0Gb/s stat mean anything important?

1. This u can only answer: How much data do u have and will u have in future? If u don't collect movies, u will have a hard time to get over 1TB
2. It is theoretical and means the HDD is a SATA3 standard (which is downwards compatible to older SATA standards)

coma about the new sandy bridge, they won't come out in half a year... the new sandy bridge e for desktops and ivy bridge will come out end of 2011/early 2012. that's why i suggested to just wait for the current, fixed sandy.
rumours say that the current mainboards for socket 1155 will be compatible for any future ivy bridges, which is a good thing
about the hdds, 1 terabyte is most likely enough, hdds with more than 1 terabyte like 2 or 3 tend to malfunction and stop working sometimes.

I would take the 1TB drive, very nice drive. Will also be easier to manage than a 2TB drive. I'm liking pretty much all your other choices, I think my only comment would be that the power supply isn't a modular design, but this isn't a huge thing.

Hmm modular design you say..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productco ... 139-006-TS

Here is another comparison, only for power supplies. The left two are modular designs, while the left two are not, with the 3rd one being the supply I've chosen now. Strokey do you think modular design is worth looking into for just $10 more? If so I am leaning towards #2.

By the way thanks for taking the time and looking at all of this guys :)

it kinda is, for 1 year now or so, modular designs like 80plus gold/silver/platin are"the new thing"
and the sc reference is just coincidence

I would always opt for modular design, even more so in this day and age. 10 years ago it wouldn't matter as there would only be about 4 smallish cables running from the supply, these days with supply hungry systems, a non-modular supply can have a dozen heavy cabling leads and take up a lot of space and restrict air flow to hot components.

Good to know!

So i guess while I wait for that damn Sandy Bridge to finally come out again, I can update the parts I already have when I find some good deals/better parts.

Just saw this 2TB HDD from WD. Only $10 more, but it doesn't state the RPM's..what's people's take on it?

compared to the one I am going with now

about the i5-2500k vs the AMD X6 1090T:
the intel one also consumes alot less energy.

go for the 1tb one, SATA 6.0Gb/s is something you don't wanna miss

Yeah I read AMD usually consumes more power than intel CPUs. It's just going to be torture having to wait until April to finally get this build :(

Can an Nvidia card work with an AMD CPU?

The Green is slower than the Black.
The Black has longer durabilitiy which also reflects itself in the longer warranty

If u don't want to overclock also the 2500 without k is ok

IF u want to brag. The black caviar has a maximum transfer rate of 126 MB/s according to WD spec sheet.
This is covered even almost by SATA1. The only difference is the host to buffer transferrate, because if the data is in buffer it can be transferred with 6.0GB. But this has an neglectable impact on speed

i maybe have the answer now: the bug only occurs when using sata 2.0 right? so if you use a hdd or hdd#ssd both on sata 3 (6gb/s) the problem will not bother you. i may be worong on this, anyone up for some researching?
