turning off routers.. or not!

Post by Aaryn_GenD »

hello people,
recently my aunt was visiting me, and wanted to check something in the internet, as i told her that it is currently switched off and i need too turn it on first (a matter of seconds)

she was surprised by this, saying that her router is never turned off, only if she goes to holiday or so

i'm surprised too..

am i the only one who keeps turning off his router over night or when i won't be online for lets say 1-2 hours??
heck i even turn the WLAN (Wireless LAN) off when my brother doesn't need it so i can save some energy the router would waste

i used to turn my router on and off 4-5 times a day, now i'm contemplating only turning it off when i know i won't be using it for the next 16 horus or so (night and until noon in the next day)

My router is always on 24/7, because I'm far too lazy to switch it off every night.

Sad but true. :)

I may turn mine off once a week or something just to give it a chance to cool down and have a break. Apart from that it is on 24/7 (as is my computer).

Router runs 24/7. I don't use WLAN except a few times a year. Else everthing is connected with good old cables in a Gigabit LAN
