Wireless

Post by 36drew »

I just moved houses and i'm now playing off a wireless system. Two problems:

1) Signal strength is very low and my other computer is like 30 feet away.

2) Failed to join games. Suggestions?

Buy a better wireless adapter and router. It will help with signal strength. I use a wireless adapter and it seems to do the job for this game. Also keep the adapter away from speakers and yourself as it causes interference. Dunno what you can do about your failed to join issues.

Well I dunno what the heck to do -- waiting for my ISP to call me back.

Yeah wireless blows. You will get weird laginess, dropouts, etc.

fail to join problems are probably router port settings. Strokey or Shoot Bogey could probably help you get those set correctly - there may be a thread already. But fixing that will just set you up for heartache. Wire it or you will continue to suffer weirdness.

Two notes from above:
1) There is a thread on router ports - it's stickied in the tech help forum.
2) The above should read that if you only fix router ports you may fix the fail to join but you will still have wireless problems. The ports should be fixed even if you wire through the router.
