Starcraft 2 headaches - LOADING TIMES!!!

Post by TheRam »

Okay, well yeah I've installed this game, my PC isn't exactly the most powerful one out there, but it is good enough to handle all modern games (apparently not this one!) and I've not got the funds to upgrade.

Does anyone know any quick fixes to getting loading screens not to take 5 minutes? If I play campaign they take that long, multiplayer I tried once and it wasn't that bad, it was a lot quicker but still annoying.

Also, every time I finish a mission on the postgame screen it freezes and NOT RESPONDING (whole PC freezes up for a while then I can eventually get into task manager to nuke the process).

Any tips? I've done a reg clean, doing a de-frag, got my settings all on medium or lower. It's an absolute joke how poorly optimised it is.

I can't really be dealing with a full reinstall at the moment, the loading times are weak as hell and it's probably my CPU.

Not sure what that is, I can find out if it's really an issue but it can't be replaced anyways and it works with all modern games...

Running
2gig Ram
Geforce 8800GTX

It's a pretty standard rig that justabout runs HL2 type games on max without issue.

The 2 GB RAM is the issue.
It begins already swapping RAM to the hard drive. 4 GB and u would be fine. Closing unnesscary programs can also help

What operating system do u run? and 32 bit or 64 bit?

64bit vista my friend.

I would likely have to invest in 2x 2gb but it's not impossible, as long as I could retain that ram when I upgraded sometime not TOO far away it wouldn't be an issue.

I need work before I can have nice things :(
(I have nice things I am just very bad at financing and impulsively spend)

You can buy 4gb ~(or an extra 2gb) really REALLY cheap these days.

I have 2gb ram and my graphics card is worse than yours, but I'm on 32bit XP (i know its so old!) and i did get painfully long load times when my graphics were on medium/high. but i turned almost everything down to low, apart from shaders, and that seems to have fixed it. it alt tabs quick, loading times are as fast as anyone else now... so try turning down to lowest

He has Vista 64 bit.

Vista takes already (much) more RAM than XP and 64 bit also increases the RAM usage.

i personally dislike those low graphics, medium - high is the best.
since i bought my pc two years ago i never wanna ply on low settigns again.
you have to experience the treasure, only then you never wantto miss it. when i had my old gameboy i also could play on that greeny stupid screen, when i had an advance i could never go back to it

we still don'tk now your cpu cammel?
your gpu is perfcetly fine for medium - low details i'd say

Only other thing I could suggest is to make sure you are running absolute minimum in the background when playing, turn off, close and disable anything you don't need when playing sc2. Use your task manager to check your typical ram usage when using your pc to see what you using and where you can save.

Yeah, the PC was pretty cluttered and so I freed up to 200gb free memory (500gb SATA) and I always close all background processes before playing it now.

I'll stop being lazy and I'm checking my specs on Device Manager.

Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz
Graphics card is apparently a GeForce 9800 GT (I was wrong!)

Couldn't find RAM, but I know it's 2gb, I think it's 2x 1gb sticks, hence needing 4gb in 2x2 not sure how many slots my mobo has.

Lol this remembers me of when I started playing sc2, my comp was soo aweful ( it was a 5 year old bad windows XP) that the average time waiting for a game to load was about 5 minutes. Eventually my parents found it kinda sad for me so they bought a new comp :P

Just open ur case and look. U should see how many slots it has. U will not be able to use the ram in the new comp since u need DDR2 and new comps use now DDR3 ram.
so if u are low on funds and u have 4 slots i suggest buying 2x1

The rest of ur components are strong enoiugh to support SC2 quite well
