Re: SC2 to be region locked
this is sad indeed.
but there is abit of hope:
"if you're a European player and you've got friends that are in another region that you want to be able to connect with, we definitely want to support that," although "it might mean that you have to access it through the US client."

Awful, and indefensible.
No good reason for this at all.

Very upsetting. Hopefully it won't be that hard to change servers
Re: SC2 to be region locked
I just hope that changing from server isn't going to be too hard. It makes Starcraft so less fun when we are only able to play against guys from Europe.

Re: SC2 to be region locked
Are they saying you have to buy multiple versions to play with friends from America, how the heck am I gonna fund that with my poor pocket money -.-
If they wanted to make this a really good game, they'd change it, unfortunately they are only going for the money, and not for the fame

Re: SC2 to be region locked
Well you have to buy a US and a European copy of the game, because you need two accounts.
Re: SC2 to be region locked
In Sc 1 you could switch servers easier than you can switch from RE to FP. I guess I might be buying two copies of the game if need be.
The funny thing is that now when I ask someone in game 'from?' Half the time it isn't from North America, and there usually is never a lag issue in 1v1 or 2v2 for that matter.

Re: SC2 to be region locked
drag is right.
"There are no current plans for it, and if you're a European player and you've got friends that are in another region that you want to be able to connect with, we definitely want to support that. It might mean that you have to access it through the US client, but those facilities will definitely be available in terms of, if you want the US client, go to the US website, download the US client.
So I can use my same account?
No.
So I need to buy two clients, that's what you're saying?
Yeah. "

Re: SC2 to be region locked
Yeah Drew, when we played with fraps, with me in Europe there was no noticeable lag. I'm not quite sure what the reasoning is behind this, although money would not surprise me.

Re: SC2 to be region locked
of course it is money.
if they would care soleley for the fact so players on bnet 2.0 do not get ppl from other regions which would affect their game experience negatively, they wouldn't even allow "buying another copy of the game to play on other regions". they would do ip scans and what not to prevent peopple from other regions.
what's the difference between just "hopping to another server" and "buying it again in order to switch servers"? nothing but money
