Rugby is by far the sport for tough people, soccer for playing fun, cycling for those who like endurance, martial arts for thsoe who like to kick other people without going to jail (to be fair, boxing is a great sport), but people, I shall say this only once...

There is only 1 true Sport. Yes with a capital. And that is cricket.

Dont watch, dont play it. Or you will be hooked once you start to understand it.

The look on Allan Donald's face when being run out when going for the Win in the 99 worldcup after the most incredibele match. For me, that last half hour should be in anyone's op ten sporting moments.

VVs laxman taking on the all conquering aussies in India.
Murali bowling.

I start to smile just remembering Shane Warne take on all of England and more in 2005. That was just 5 tests with 5 days of wimbledon 2008 final tension. Harmison bouncing langer on the opening day. Warne and McGrath coming back as always.
Mcgrath stepping on a ball during warm up. The Flintoff and Pietersen assault. The final day aussie comeback ending 2 runs short.
The ponting rearguard at old trafford.
The nerve biting win (at was it headingly?) The mighty all conquering aussies falling apart, except for Warne.
The last push at the last day by the aussies. the drop of Pietersen, by warne. Man, that was sports as it should be.

Ja I remember the South Africa tour of England - a amazing duel between red-hot Allan Donald and ice-cool Mike Atherton. Really blood bouncing stuff!

Don't talk about that run-out - a true nightmare for us. :(

The greatest one-day game - South Africa overhauling Aussie's target of 434. Lots of records were broken on that day. 8O

But I truely miss the old days where there were no limit to dangerous bouncers (remember the great West Indian bowlers). Really blood bumping! :)

Cricket is an excellent sport, but rugby is my number one. Look at last year World Cup final - a real slugfight between forwards. I wish that I am there playing my country. Lol.

Well Donald didnt care about the limits of bouncers in that game. He was no balled several times for overdoing it.
the record game was nice, but I prefer the semi final. No records that day, but in the end, the game was changing every ball. Glad to see you south africans finally got rid of the chokers tag and win the rugby cup.

For people like chaos, who thinks cricket is for softies (at least I assume he does), imagine a very angry Mike Tyson hurling a ball made of cork and leather (quite heavy) at 160 km/h at your head, chest or nuts.
You have about 1/10 of a second to decide on dodging or playing the ball.
Well top players have, I would just get hit on the head. And Angry Mike tyson can do that as many times as he wants. In fact, the great West Indian teams had 4 of those guys in a team. If one got tired, they just brought on the next.

Ja, but we still have chokers tag when it comes to cricket. :( Outside the World Cup we played very well, but when the pressure is on during the WC, we flopped.

Lol. The is true. ;) That is why I love him. A pity that there are very few red-hot-bouncers bowlers now. Blast that new rule that limits the bouncers per over.

Mike Tyson will make a very poor bowler - he is too short and his shoulder is too wide. Those old West Indian bowlers are all tall and slim. In order to be able to bowl those dangerous bouncers, the ball have to leave the bowler's hand at a great height and hit the ground near the batsman and then go up very sharply. Then those batsman will have very little reaction to that bouncers. It doesn't matter if the ball is super-fast or not as long as the ball leaves from great height. Have you noticed that the shorter bowlers have to bowl the ball on halfway of the pitch in order to get bouncers? Tall bowlers don't have to do that or the ball will go over the batsman's head. :-P They just can hit the pitch closer to the batsman. Also just for fun they can hit same area with softer balls that will keep low and hit the batsman on groin or stomach. Lol.

At the moment keep an eye on next week test, Mornie Morkel will be there. He is tall and can bowl some wicked bouncers (but not at Alan Donald's level). :D Looking forward to that game.

I dont think Mike Tyson would make a very good cricketer either. I was just looking for the most scary african I knew. Names like Patrick Patterson, Michael "whispering death" Holding, Malcolm Marshall, Joel "big bird" Garner, Andy Roberts, Curtly Ambrose and Courtny Walsh probably dont mean crap to anyone.

I think for a true bouncer speed does matter. If you are truly trying to take the other guy's head off, it just cant be fast enough. off cource, height helps. But Lee and Akhtar and Ntini are not that tall.

But tall bowlers generate serious bounce from every ball, even if they pitch it up. A good lenght ball that bounces and goes for your groin, ouch! And much more likely to get a wicket. You duck a bouncer, but those balls you must play.
It so difficult coming forward to them. They can keep you completely of scoring if they

The great thing about the west indians was that they had it all. Pace, height, hostility and accuracy. Just like Donald. And they had 4 in 1 team! Incredible.

Morkel, Steyn, Ntini, you certainly have the edge in the pace bowling. And there's that nutcase Nel. If england get their batting together, It might be close. if they bat like vs New Zealand, you guys should have an easy time. Unless they prepare nothing but green tops for anderson and siddebottom.

The advantage with the tall bowlers is that the batsman has to play each ball. It is very dangerous because if the tall bowler is very cunning, he use the first three/four balls as bouncer and use the fourth/fifth ball as low yorker (but it bounces on the same area as previous balls). Usually that ball will ram into the groin/stomach or hit the wicket. The shorter bowler will not have same advantage, but he has many other weapons (eg, swing, seam, etc). I am very fond of watching the tall bowlers in action for psychological effect on batman's mind - although I have not yet seen any batsman sh*tting in his pants. :D

Ja, we have clear advantage in pace department but our spinner still need to adjust. Also most of our batsmen need to get used to your ball. I am hoping to see Greame Smith recover his form in time. so at the moment both of ur teams are matched. That is why I am looking forward to the first test. :D
