Re: @ my USA friends
I say sometimes harder statements then necessairy, politicians do the same when they are making their statement[/quote] No need to worry about that; I do, too. That's the satirist's art: Exaggeration. Or at least the polemical art. Just ask Friedrich Nietzsche. Sometimes you need to throw a grenade...

Re: @ my USA friends
Ah, I get called off for a few days and I miss a priceless thread like this one :) I never saw Michael Moore's new movie. I have written about the response to it, though. I found it strange that the MPAA rated it R--just like Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine--even though it just contains st...

Re: Learning English?
I agree with Luukje here. Latin is useful because it teaches you the components of language-learning. Learning a language is an acquired skill. It's much easier to do once you've done it once. And because Latin has influenced almost all European languages, it makes learning them that much easier. I ...

Re: Learning English?
Cool thread, Jim. And I think the examples you found demonstrate what's really difficult about English: Idioms. I have written at length about English and its relationship to its component languages: German, French and Latin. At base, English is a High Germanic language. Over time, its Germanic core...

Agreed, Shiz. I don't think 2007 or even 2008 experts would stand a chance against well-practiced 2010 experts. If you don't live this game on a daily basis, you can't just flip in the disc and be competitive again.

Re: A Most Excellent Team FF
That was an interesting post, Drew. I have to agree with your observations about "forced wins." But just because I agree that "legitimate competitive strategies" are the way to win rated games does not mean I like the idea. You are absolutely right that AOE punishes "unique ...
