Re: Ottomans on Water Maps
That doesn't sound like a bad idea, Chaos. Of course very few Ottos will ever leave the Russians unharassed enough to pull off a seamless FF, and even then you need a card AND 1000 wood to get kalmucks, and gathering that much wood takes a while. Immediate pressure with 14-vil econ works, too, but w...
As Russian, the hardest thing I usually face is actually a FF (yeah, it still exists) with Spahi, Mam's, Abus, and cannons...wipes Russia off the map..schooners or not.
You are so right. This was the strat that beat my Russia every time. I sometime...

Re: Ottomans on Water Maps
Thanks for the replies, guys. I know there is no clear answer to my questions; I like all the observations you're making. I don't play Otto myself, but I play against them often and have difficulty contending with pressure + schooners. Ruminator is right that schooners normally do not come first, bu...

Re: Stats Sacrifice for Testing - Positive or not?
I say no time spent playing real games is wasted, whether you're testing or not. I look at AOE3 like learning a foreign language; you just need to keep doing it and eventually it becomes habitual and natural. Of course you'll have hard times, but you won't get anywhere without taking chances. Grante...

Thanks, Blackghost; I had fun with this. It went out of sync on me, but I know what to do now. Note to self: Don't spam doppels at rifle riders!

Re: Can Gas Cost get any Higher ?
I agree absolutely on both points. The realities of corporate politics play directly into the problem: Why should an oil company change its approach to the "problem" when the "problem" is pushing their stock prices up? R&D is the prudent way to spend extra resources, but all ...

Ottomans on Water Maps
Hi everybody. One thing I like to do is learn strats to handle various situations involving different civs. Of course you need to be flexible in AOE3, but if you can internalize lots of different, distinct strats, you wind up having a "bag of tricks" that becomes second-nature. I brainstor...

Re: Can Gas Cost get any Higher ?
I have to say that after reading everyone's posts that we have quite a learned clan; I am happy to be part of it. At the risk of reviving the debate, I will volunteer my $0.02 on the gas price crisis. First off, I live in Chicago, where city taxes push the average price per gallon to about $4.29. Hi...
It would be interesting to see this in action. Anyone know where there are rec's of this?
I saw something similar to this on Age Sanc in a game involving Skwzz_Damnit (as Spanish) against an Aztec expert. If you run a search there you should be able ...
