buying a civ...
« on: December 05, 2011, 05:00:08 »
ok so i have decided to buy a civ for AoE:O  :o

but i have a few questions and am hoping some existing buyers can help me understand and clarify a couple issues...

1): do i need to purchase each and every civ in order to play  PvP? or will purchasing a single civ be enough to play PvP/ranked PvP?

2): does lag exist in each and every PvP game regardless of computer or net speed? or is it dependant on a player's location/region in regards to his/her opponent? like international=lag but national/regional = lag free or 'reduced lag'?

i am genuinely interested in this game , i have been messing with it past few days and would like to bash others online...preferably in a ranked setting  ;D

To 1) U must buy every civ with which u want to play ranked champion mode games. U can use a f2p civ in custom champion mode games if a player with a premium civ hosts the game

so if i bought a single civ , i could still do ranked champion mode with it w/o any problems right?

if thats the case then i don't mind it at all. it's buying every civ just to be able to play ranked champion mode that has had me on the fence about deciding whether or not to go ahead with purchasing a civ

i told you today, that you need to buy every civ seperately in order to play that civilization in ranked :P maybe i worded myself wrong but that was what i meant^^
about the lag, i guess it is how it is, it's the same as in aoe3 tbh.

I would suggest checking the bundle for egypt and persians + crete (crete is crap, it's just that it gives you eggy and persian for a lower price).  I payed 20€ for greek, since the bundle costs around 30€ (not sure tho) it wouldn't be a bad price. Ask Bart, he bought that

it'll be either egypt or persia

egypt was my civ when i played AoM so i am comfortable with the playstyle they offer , as well as excellent seige -chariots-elephant units they have rock , the trick is getting aged up high enough in order to abuse them ;)

persia intrigues me , i am curious to see them tbh , the immortal archery units i saw during a few quests were rather good , if the rest of the civ is like that then  that's excellent

greece isn't for me , if it were AoM i'd probably reconder but w/o the myth aspect of it all , i'd pick egypt. priests empowering buildings , healing , and casting conversion and chaos on enemy units is gravy

celts looks promising from the little i have seem about them , but they are not released yet and i am not patient enough to wait until they are available

Thats what I did ^^

Defense of crete is like 1 hour of fun in total so it doesnt really add much, but 2 civs for 30$ is definitely worth it.

BTW: The prices are the same in dollars as in euros, so the offer is 30€ in europe but 30$ in USA. PRetty lame :P

would i be able to use an xbox points code card for AoE:O? i checked out a store that sells microsoft points cards - but they are all for xbox , if i bought one of those points cards , would i be able to redeem it for AoE:O in the in game market interface?

what i'm asking is , are the points universal as long as it deals with anything microsoft live?

Yes, though u have to buy points for US accounts. U also can buy AOEO at the website. When it shows the price u have to click "Pay with points" or something similar

U are welcome.

I also purchased now premium content. The persian bundle, with Egypt, Persia and Defense of Crete.
Paid roundabout 21 € in total.
Now that champion mode is available and Skirmish Hall will be for free (at least for a bit of time after release), the game will have content that is essential and worth for what i have paid for.
