yeah usually start getting upgrades a bit before getting your third base. And like aaryn said if you get +1 fast against zeerg your zealots will be really strong against zerglings and if u get fast +1 armor against terran and it is used together with guardian shiel your zealots take a few more hits from a marine to die.
